Congratulations to our CEO, Dr. Bruce McManus, who was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada on Friday, June 29th, 2018.
Dr. McManus was recognized for his translational research that has led to advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease and organ failure in Canada.
As he absorbs the reality of being appointed to the Order of Canada, Dr. McManus is rather overwhelmed by the news…
“I am deeply honoured by the appointment. It is truly amazing to be so invited along with a diversity of outstanding Canadians. I am excited to join the other appointees from British Columbia and those great colleagues who have entered the Order before me. The PROOF Centre Team, my mentors and colleagues in the Universities of our province, in Providence Health Care and other healthcare organizations, in the UBC James Hogg Research Centre, in the Heart Centre, and across the community of Vancouver, and far beyond, are a huge part of this happening. I am thankful for the chance to pursue scientific truth in a joyful environment that Canada provides for all of us.”
Established by Queen Elizabeth II in 1967, the Order of Canada is one of the highest civilian honours that recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Their contributions have all enriched the lives of others and have taken to heart the motto:
Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam (“They desire a better country”)
Dr. McManus will be accepting his insignia at a ceremony held at a later date.
Congratulations to all Companions, Officers and Members on this great honour.
