PROOF Centre & IO Informatics to Present at Partnering for Cures Conference November 17.
Solutions for Organ Failure: It takes a collaborative analytic perspective
Vancouver, BC; Berkeley, CA Nov. 17, 2014 – IO Informatics and the PROOF Centre of Excellence are joining forces for big data integration and analysis, to tackle some of the world’s leading health burdens and develop new health solutions. The two organizations will be presenting and discussing their successful collaboration: Solutions for Organ Failure – It Takes an Analytic Perspective at the 6th annual Partnering for Cures, November 16-18 in New York City.
In harnessing the power of data integration, representation and analysis, IO Informatics, the PROOF Centre, and strategic partners are driving the improved diagnosis and prediction of progression of heart, lung and kidney failure. Outcomes for drug development and clinical care include new biosignatures as patterns for decision-making that can speed the effective production of urgently needed therapeutics and improve targeted trials and treatment.
“We are so pleased to share our progress in developing tools to optimize laboratory tests for heart, lung and kidney health and disease, and solutions aimed at accelerating the movement of better drugs from concept to the clinic for patients with vital organ failure. In using our expertise in semantics, informatics, analytics and technology migration, we and our collaborative group of partners are truly on a journey of value for health care,” stated Dr. Bruce McManus, CEO of the PROOF Centre of Excellence.
“We have made great strides in our biomarkers programs for organ failure, but what is most exciting is that the platform and process we have established can be applied to other diseases. There is an enormous opportunity to leverage our platforms and create new solutions for many other complex health challenges.”
Robert Stanley, CEO of IO Informatics, added, “We are honored to be asked by FasterCures to present the innovative work we have done with our partner, the PROOF Centre. The spirit of the Partnering for Cures meeting is to create a fertile environment that brings together leaders in industry, academia, and foundations as well investors and government. The conference encourages interaction and discussion with the end goal of creating collaborations that we hope will lead to treatments and cures for those patients affected by a variety of diseases. We are thrilled to be chosen to participate in that process and to do what we can to bring successful collaborations together and make a difference.”
Convened by FasterCures, the Washington, D.C.-based center of the Milken Institute, the conference will be attended by nearly 1,000 medical research leaders, investors and decision-makers with shared intention to forge the collaborations needed to speed and improve outcomes-driven R&D. Partnering for Cures is designed to facilitate informed investments and to cultivate relationships by adopting the outcomes-oriented approach of investor conferences, and building on the networking opportunities offered by industry partnering meetings. In addition to innovator presentations, the conference also features expert panels that spotlight solutions to long-standing challenges in medical research.
“These collaborations address some of the thorniest issues in medical research using models that can be scaled and translated across diseases,” said FasterCures’ Executive Director Margaret Anderson. “From re-imagining clinical trial infrastructure to improving and expanding data sharing, to creating the tools and resources needed to translate basic science into cures, they are accelerating the path from lab to market for novel – and needed – therapies.”

About PROOF Centre:
The Centre of Excellence for the Prevention of Organ Failure (PROOF Centre) develops actionable blood tests to better predict, diagnose, manage and treat heart, lung and kidney disease. The PROOF Centre is a cross-disciplinary biosignature development engine of partners representing academia, health care, government, industry, patients and the public, convened to improve heart, lung and kidney health and reduce the enormous socioeconomic burden of organ disease. The Centre’s service arm provides expertise in patient cohort assembly, computation, “-omic” science and biomarker workflow to organizations seeking to discover, develop and implement blood-based molecular biomarkers in a clinical setting. The PROOF Centre is a not-for-profit society initially established by the Networks of Centres of Excellence Secretariat under the Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research (NCE CECR) Program, and is co-hosted by the University of British Columbia and Providence Health Care in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. www.proofcentre.ca
