Dr. Robert Sindelar was appointed to leadership roles within PHC, PHCRI and UBC in 2013. He is also Professor and Former Dean, UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In these roles, Dr. Sindelar oversees the research enterprise at Providence as well as strategic and operational collaborations with the universities including the areas of personalized medicine, big data, and patient engagement. Dr. Sindelar completed a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products in 1980. His research expertise is in medicinal chemistry, computer-aided drug discovery, pharmaceutical biotechnology and the immune system and related diseases, and resulted in approximately $14 million in extramural funding, 60+ journal articles, six U.S. patents, several international patents, and over 125 invited presentations. Dr. Sindelar is the recipient of several School and University-wide teaching honors and is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. While serving as Dean at UBC, he was instrumental in the fundraising, design and building of a new 250,000 sq. ft. building that has won numerous awards for design, functionality and innovation. In addition, he is a co-founder of the Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD), a national not-for-profit drug development and commercialization centre.
